The Department

Stay tuned for a very facinating update! But for now i leave you with this little nugget…

Suzanne and i recently did the decor for a wedding reception in Atlanta, GA. It was a wonderful event and everything turned out beautifully! More photos coming your way soon!

We are doing more and more events these days and i would love it if you tagged along!

a tuesday…

It started with a cold beer and key lime cheesecake.

It ended after a band performed to a German silent film.

The  in-between parts involved a walk on the tracks and a train whizzing by….

can it get any better???

Sometimes when my world gets go busy, instead of tackling each and every task i go somewhere random, hope a certain gentleman will join me, and let the time pass as it will! This particular tuesday turned out especially random and a just a smidge magical.

this was my mini-break-holiday-afternoon-staycation… Phew!

what say?

(.. my great uncle says that…cupping his ear toward you, before breaking out into an unmistakable laugh)

Sooo if you havent guessed it yet, you may need to know that i am a city girl through and through!  If you looked close enough, inside this form of mine, you would see a transit map of the new york city subway system instead of veins.  I cant tell you which day it was that i decided that the smell of that great city was alone the most powerful and wonderful things i’ve ever smelled? Or the day when i realized from THAT moment forward each and every time i caught sight of that skyline my stomach would flip a little?  I could probably go on for days and days about the energy and inspiration and wonder that is NYC, but we’ve all heard it, read it, sang along to it… I wont put you through it again… (you’re welcome) But i will say, when something grips you like that… it becomes so much a part of who you are.  I spent a very small period of time in my city and yet since our ways have parted… i still search for little pieces in my surroundings now to bring me back. the smell of fresh baked bread in combination with truck exhaust, the sight of scaffolding, the sound of horns (few and far between here) …. these things, to some, may be all the parts that drive them away never to return… but i think of them like those faint, daily, unexpected reminders that transtport you back to a place and time that you LOVE! (man… and you thought i wasnt going to go there…)

on the flip side.

there is a new part of me i’ve been introduced to. we’ve shook hands, said a couple words about the weather and its’ looking like we could be friends. This new acquaintence is one that enjoys something simple, something fresh, something like community that more often happens in a smaller setting. This quirky thing is beginning to think that the smell of cilantro could quite possibly trump truck exhaust in that great city… that to see basil growing in an unexpected place is like magic… that finding a little hole in the wall here in this place can be just as exciting and rewarding…  and that NYC is okay being 534.7 mi. away (as long as i can still get there if i need, of course)

all of these things came to a head one evening as i was standing with a certian southern gentleman on my fire escape enjoying the air and pretending (AGAIN) that i was in a “real” city.  I almost had myself completely convinced ( the perfect angle of sight, brick, a bit of traffic, a siren or two, the slight smell of smoke)  and then i heard crickets…

so out of place, but such a fit.

i decided this is me. an unusual blend of small town and big city. I love both and i love them equally. and i love how life can take you down so many roads, teach you so many things, and flip you upside down a little so you become someone you never dreamed of…. but enjoy so much! ta DA!

this was long and drawn out and whether it was worth your time or not, i will continue to travel in this little bit of blog world and document my whims and whimsys… and perhaps some obsessions along the way!

Hope you tag along!
